Answer

Do I need a developer or an IT person to use AI automation?

No. You need someone in your company who knows the process and can approve decisions, typically two to three hours in the first week and under an hour a week afterwards. The building, the connections and the monitoring are ours. Day-to-day use happens in tools your team already has: email, chat and your calendar.

What we need from your side

Access to the systems involved, a person who can say what is correct, and someone who can approve giving the automation permission to write. In a small company that is usually the owner. None of this requires technical skill; it requires authority and knowledge of the process.

Why an internal IT person still helps

If you have one, the project moves faster, because access requests and system questions are answered in hours instead of days. But they are not a prerequisite, and we do not need them to write code or maintain anything afterwards.

What your team actually learns

Three habits: approve or correct a draft instead of writing from scratch, check the exception queue once a day, and report anything the automation got wrong through one button. That is a 30-minute training, not a course.

Who fixes it if something breaks at 8pm?

Monitoring alerts us, not you. Most failures are a connected system changing something, and the automation is built to retry and then fall back to a person rather than fail silently.

Can our own team make changes later?

Yes for the parts that are settings: wording, routing rules, business hours, who gets which notification. Structural changes are quicker to ask us for.
