Answer

What happens when a customer calls and nobody picks up?

Within 5 seconds of the missed call an SMS goes out: who you are, that you saw the call, and a question that starts a conversation. The customer replies by text, the answer lands with your team, and the booking or quote continues in writing. Most replies arrive before the caller has dialled a competitor.

Why 5 seconds and not five minutes

A caller who does not get through is still holding the phone. At that moment a message feels like a response; ten minutes later it feels like an interruption, and by then they have called the next number on the list. The window is short and it closes on its own.

What the message should say

Three elements, in one short text: your company name so it is not mistaken for spam, an acknowledgement that the call was seen, and one specific question such as what the job is or when it suits them. A generic „we will call you back” gets far fewer replies than a question.

Where the conversation goes next

The reply can be handled by a person or continued automatically: booking a slot, sending a price range, or collecting the details needed for a quote. Either way the conversation is stored against the customer record, so nothing depends on which colleague happened to read it.

Is this not annoying for the customer?

The opposite: it answers the question they had when they called. One message per missed call, no follow-up spam, and replying stops it immediately.

Does it work alongside an AI phone agent?

Yes, and together they cover everything: the agent answers what it can, and the text-back catches the calls that still fall through, for example during a total outage.
